Kumbalangi is an eco-tourism fishing village that is located about 12 km from Kochi. It offers an authentic dive into Kerala’s rural life and backwater beauty. The peaceful village is India’s first model tourism village, that launched in 2003. It shows the sustainable development through biogas plants, waste-management systems, and community-driven tourism. Sea sparkle (bioluminescence), locally called ‘Kavaru’, which causes a magical blue glow in the water after the monsoon, is a rare and mesmerizing natural sight. The mangrove-lined in the backwaters that interlock the waterways give a picturesque setting. Homestays and traditional meals are the most attractive things for the travellers.
